العَودة إلى البَيتْ - Going Back Home

More than three million people of Moroccan descent live in Europe, with approximately one million residing in Spain. Many have been settled in the country for decades.

Each year, thousands travel back to their homeland to spend holidays and reconnect with the friends and family they left behind. But the number of those choosing to return permanently is growing, particularly as they reach retirement age.

Most of these returnees cross the Mediterranean on ferry boats between Southern Europe and Tangier. In a sense, they resemble modern-day Ulysses, as eternal travelers fulfilling their aspiration to return home after a life filled with adventure.

This is an excerpt of my Masters Final Project at Elisava, called “Returning Home”
